At Burks UMC
                                       Child Development Center
Our purpose is to provide, within a Christian atmosphere opportunities which meet the educational needs of the early childhood years and emphasize growth in all areas—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.  Through a warm, accepting climate and a rich program, we hope to give your child a natural step from home to school.  Since play is the language of children and the foundation of a good preschool, we recognize its value for the young child.  Our classes include a balance of guided play, conversation, story times, dramatic play, and group activities.

Highlights of our Program include:
– serving 2.5-5 yr olds 7:00 am – 6:00pm Monday – Friday
– We use kindergarten readiness curriculum in our 4/5 yr old classrooms which is aligned with Hamilton County Standards
– Our 2-3 yr old classes use Handwriting W/O tears which teaches letter and number recognition. It is very hands on
– Life Skills are taught in all of classrooms. These prepare students for the rest of their academic careers
Every other Wednesday the Ministry staff has chapel with the children in the sanctuary.  The Music Director also teaches the children songs during this time of worship.
Field trips come to the church.  We do not travel with the children.  Past visitors include the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum, and Mother Goose.
On Thursdays, the owner from Pure Genius, Christine Celis comes to the center and teaches a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program to our children.  Each classroom spends 30 minutes with Ms. Christine participating in all types of hands-on science and math activities.  Pure Genius will attract your child’s attention with weekly interactive STEM activities.  We hope these exciting classes will get your child excited about science and math
