Burks United Methodist Youth Fellowship

Sometimes it can be intimidating to come to a large youth group gathering, with a lot of new people running around. Plus, it can be challenging to get a great discussion going with so many people. Well, our solution is the small group ministry. This is a chance for our large group to be smaller, with smaller groups and an opportunity to grow closer to a few people. We take the time to discuss the Bible and life issues with a secure, loving group of other students perhaps facing the same challenges.

echo_picAll you need to be part of this ministry is to come on out on a Wednesday night this semester. We hold an open house hang out time starting at 4:00, followed by a large church dinner at 5:00 and small groups going from 6:15 to 7:15. We have four groups going every week, two High School and two Middle School. We'd love for you to join us this week!

For all those students desiring to join the church, grow deeper in your faith, and to find an opportunity to ask the hard questions, then you should join teh confirmation class beginning on Sunday, January 29th and ending on Sunday, May 20th.

We meet every Sunday during the Sunday School hour (10:00 - 10:45) in the gym. You'll need to bring your Bible, a notebook/pen, and energy to participate and engage with what we're discussing for the week.

All students are welcome to attend this class, from 6th through 12th grade. Also, mark your calendars for the Confirmation retreat to be held at Camp Lookout on February 17-18th. res_pictureThe two weekends of Resurrection are now behind us, and already the prospect and anticipation of next year is upon us! This was a fantastic retreat, with excellent music, a dynamic speaker, and plenty of opportunities for conversation, reflection, free time and friends.

Reggie Dabbs was the speaker for the weekend, and he focused primarily on one issue; all are called to make an impact in the world for God. Using the story of his childhood, his adoptive parents, creative scripture readings, and the movie Braveheart, he gave a vision to all of us that the following weeks will not be able to fade.

Of course, we were also impacted by the music of the Wayne Kerr Band, and Leeland, who gave very energetic and motivating performances.

If you weren't able to be there this year, fear not for next year beckons. mark your calendar for Jan. 18-20 (HS weekend) and Jan. 25-27 (MS weekend). Check this spot for more pictures to come soon!

The wilds  are calling us to a week of service in the bush area of Alaska. This youth ministry will be traveling to Sutton, Alaska June 9-16th for a week of home repair, community service, ministry, and other tasks to demonstrate the love of Christ in a very practical and meaningful way. We invite your prayers and your interest as we work this year to prepare for this momentous trip!

We are a very active youth ministry, with the dual focuses of faith and fun. We believe that having fun is an important thing and reflects the Biblical truth of God being the architect of joy. Our faith is what drives us and brings us into a closer relationship with Christ and each other. We’d love for you to join us and participate in our youth ministry’s happenings.We focus on two verses as the foundation for this ministry;

“Jesus replies, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it, “Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and prophets hang on these commandments.”  Matt. 22:37-40 “”Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teach them all I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age” - Jesus of Nazareth Matt. 28:18-20.

We are a very active group, with regular gatherings on Sunday Night and Wednesday night, with Sunday School every Sunday morning between worship services. In addition, we have a variety of activities throughout the year, ranging from our annual Gatlinburg Resurrection retreat to lock-ins and Mystery Trips.Come on over any time and see how far and deep your faith can grow!
